Show Summary

This semi auto-biographical production, written by Larry Kramer, is set in 1981-1984 New York. It follows a man and a group of friends that navigate through the horrors of the AIDS crisis and start up an AIDS activism group to raise awareness of the disease. The main character loses a lot of friends throughout the play, and struggles as he tries to maneuver through the political and medical mistrust. All of his hardships make him a more passionate activist, for himself, his friends, and the rest of New York.

Notes on the Show

"The Normal Heart" was one of the many events that was held at Point Park University in response to the AIDS epidemic. Attendees of this production at Point Park University were able to learn about the severity of HIV and AIDS and the importance of safe-sex and communal activism.
