Dance and the Gulf War
from Student Showcase
October 17, 1991
tags: War
Show Summary
In response to a letter written by President George W. Bush requesting college student morale for the” Boots on Ground” of our troops in Iraq as the Gulf War commences, the Globe responds on behalf of the Point Park student body by addressing the presidents attempt to undermine the Complexities and human rights issues the war presents. Additionally, the student publication bluntly states the awareness of the petroleum motivated roots of the war. While the Globe article from early 1991 poignantly expresses Point Park students support for our troops during their military deployment in Iraq as well as awareness and knowledge of the issues that surround the United States’ role in the war, the article makes clear that the overall opinion of Point Park University is one that does not support President Bush’s reasoning and perspective for his military decisions for entering the war as commander and chief of the United States armed forces.
Notes on the Show
The choreography utilised sharp, militant movements to give the dancers the simulated appearance of soldiers onstage.
